My First Steps in Web Development
My journey into building websites began in school, where I learned the basic structure of a website. Those early lessons in HTML and CSS taught me how content, structure, and styling work together to create a functional web page.
But the real excitement came when I got to test my skills on live platforms. These experiments made the lessons come alive and sparked my curiosity to explore more.
Experimenting with HTML on Geocities
One of my first real experiments was on Geocities, a platform that allowed anyone to publish their own website. Here, I practiced HTML by creating simple pages, adding headings, paragraphs, images, and links.
Even though the pages were basic and sometimes messy, every small change felt like a discovery. It was the first time I realized that a few lines of code could create something visible on the web.
Learning CSS on Friendster
After HTML, I explored CSS through Friendster, a social media platform where people customized their profiles. By styling backgrounds, fonts, and layouts, I learned how CSS controls the look and feel of a page.
This hands-on experimentation helped me understand how design and functionality go hand in hand and how even small style changes can dramatically improve a page’s appearance.
Discovering WordPress
As I continued learning, I discovered WordPress, which transformed how I approached building websites. Unlike coding everything from scratch, WordPress allowed me to create professional websites more efficiently, while still giving room for customization.
I learned through tutorial videos, online guides, and community tips, experimenting on my own projects. Every new feature—custom themes, plugins, and page builders—added to my understanding of modern web development.
Exploring Popular WordPress Tools

The Genesis Framework by StudioPress introduced me to the concept of building websites on a solid foundation. With Genesis, I learned:
- Theme structure and child themes
- Building sites for performance and SEO
- Creating websites that are stable, secure, and scalable
Genesis helped me transition from experimental projects to professional-level websites.
Avada
Next, I explored Avada, a multipurpose WordPress theme with a powerful visual builder. It taught me how to:
- Build flexible page layouts
- Customize designs for different types of websites
- Create professional-looking websites efficiently
Divi
With Divi, I experienced real-time visual editing that made website design more intuitive and interactive. I could experiment with layouts, colors, and content without constantly previewing changes.
Elementor
Finally, Elementor became my favorite page builder. Its drag-and-drop interface allows me to create modern, professional websites quickly, whether it’s a landing page, business site, or custom layout.
Looking Back
From experimenting with HTML on Geocities to styling Friendster profiles with CSS, and finally building professional sites with WordPress and modern page builders, my skills grew step by step.
Every platform taught me something new, from coding basics to advanced design and functionality, and reinforced one key idea: learning is a continuous journey.
